Where Nashville Slows Down
Finding Leiper's Fork
I adore the East Coast, yet there's something so peaceful about being surrounded by the sweet sound of silence.
It was a brisk day in November of 2023, and as someone who can't bear the thought of standing still, I went out on an adventure in hopes of finding something different. My first year away from the roads of a suburb just outside Boston, and the sounds of traffic, I longed for the country I had heard about in books and movies. At the time, I didn't know anywhere in Tennessee that wasn't, well... Broadway. I searched around and came across the ideal spot to disappear and unwind.
Creativity Discovered Within Backroads
Located in Williamson County, Tennessee, about 15 minutes outside of Franklin and 40-ish minutes from Nashville, Leiper's Fork captures the beauty of the countryside flawlessly. Although Leiper's Fork has been around for quite some time, the unique, rustic, and artsy vibe of the small village was really brought to life during the 90s and 2000s by local creatives. Leiper's Fork quickly became a magnet for artists, particularly songwriters and musicians, in the creative community. Throughout my venture, I found myself immersed in nature, comfort, and a sense of familiarity. I brought my camera and explored the roads and shops that made up this cozy, modest town. Think Gilmore Girls, Stars Hollow.
Food Spots
This town moves at its own pace. There are about 3, maybe 5, restaurants that feed the locals and host open mics and special events at certain times of the year. Fox and Locke is a restaurant known for hosting live music and serving Southern food that visitors just love. And if you want breakfast and are craving some excellent biscuits and gravy, The Country Boy has just what you're looking for.
For The Wander's
Among these impeccable spots, you'll find the cutest antique shops, such as Props, and if you want something to admire, head over to The Copper Fox Gallery. At The Copper Fox, you can check out some of Tennessee's best artists and enjoy their pottery, paintings, furniture, and more. But if you're anything like me, you'll love Patina, a home and garden shop that has these beautiful, used guitars that you are actually allowed to pick up and play. It's all very welcoming and warm.
What Keeps Bringing Me Back
Two years later, I park my car next to the old gas filling tanks and step out to throw myself back into what I felt when I first came to Leiper's Fork—serenity. It remains one of my top favorite little hidden gems to show my family and friends when they come down to say hello. Make this spot your next day trip; you won't regret it! You will have photos and memories that last a lifetime.
